Around a week into your adventures, you will come to appreciate the luxurious facilities your home possesses. Unlimited fresh water, long showers, baths and fridge space is something we explores quickly learn to live without. Don’t worry, the reward for boycotting these elements are rewarded; having a full english over looking the countryside is hard to beat and you soon get used to the quick showers and limited water supply. ‘No pain no gain’ as the saying goes.
The prospect of travelling for a pro longed period of time is often associated with a holiday abroad, meaning we forget the importance of storage space. This is a campervan not an areoplane. You now have to consider the kit, food, water (for showers and washing), washing lines, cameras and clothes which will be needed for your journey. If you don’t believe us then try packing your campervan with all the stuff you WANT to bring. Sacrifices have to be made when it comes to less important elements such as that third blue t shirt you don’t need. You’ll be surprised how little you actually need once you’ve done your first trip.
Rush hour is bad enough when it’s a short journey into work. Imagine if just as you set off to travel the world you are stopped in traffic, waiting to leave your local area? This brings with it more than one headache, with the delay in arrival time potentially impacting your hopes of exploring your next destination. Don’t get caught out! We’ve been there and got the t shirt, it’s no fun we can assure you.
Most of us due to our commitments cannot drive off into the sunset, not to be heard from for six months. You will inevitably need to access the internet to make contact with family members friends and even work. Not only this, but keeping those close to you in touch with your plans is a safety precaution and one which we strongly advise. This can be arranged through ringing your service provider and asking them about deals they do. Note: if you will bring your laptop and plan on watching television then get a wifi router installed in your campervan as well as contacting your provider.
When we first saw a sign that says ‘parking’ we used to park and think nothing of it. However, this proved a costly lesson, as a quick drive around the area when you arrive often provides you with a few free options. We advise you consider how far it is from what you are looking to do; if there is free parking a longer walk away we recommend this. Money needs to be spent only when absolutely necessary on these trips, you’ll thank us later!
